    Department of Botany promotes research ideas on conservation of Medicinal Plants, Safe usage of Herbal remedies, Biomimicking, Pramotion of Bio-fertilizers, in enhancing awareness related to biological diversity, culture relevant to conservation, use and sharing of benefits.

    Network of Indian Universities on Cultural and Biological Diversity (NIUCBD)

    Network of Indian Universities on Cultural and Biological Diversity (NIUCBD) was established and operated from S.V. University, Tirupati with the aim to implement the Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) programme of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). NIUCBD is functioning under the Chairmanship of Prof. R. Ramamurthi, Former Vice Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and and Prof. G. Sudarsanam, Department of Botany of the same University as General Secretary.

    VISION – Society pursuing path of sustainable development with better understanding and appreciation on true value of environmental, social, cultural and economic services of diversified biological systems.

    MISSSION – Promote viable strategies to main stream the environmental services offered by the diversified biological systems at all levels of development planning. Facilitate capacity building initiatives among different stakeholders on sustainable use of natural systems.

    NIUCBD desires to pursue Biodiversity Conservation, capacity building and enhancing awareness through education, linking stakeholders with policy agenda, planning and implementation of the multi level agreements. Network of Indian Universities participates in the initiatives aimed at achieving the objectives of CBD. The Network strives to achieve the vision -“By 2050, living in harmony with nature, biodiversity is valued, conserved, restored and wisely used, maintaining ecosystem services, sustaining a healthy planet and delivering benefits essential for all people”

    Role of Network of Indian Universities on Cultural and Biological Diversity (NIUCBD).
    Ø  Provide a platform for like-minded, interested Universities and through Universities related colleges, institutions and departments to join hands in enhancing awareness related to biological diversity, culture relevant to conservation, use and sharing of benefits.
    Ø  Serve as the core-group, through national network and regional network of Universities to engage in constructive dialogue related to conservation action.
    Ø  Prepare a nation-level action plan to promote conservation, sustainable use and sharing of benefits with implementation options.
    Ø  Serve as the knowledge platform for biodiversity issues in supporting action at secondary and tertiary levels of education.
    Ø  Assist directly and/or through the National Biodiversity Authority in enhancing support to biodiversity education through relevant bodies and ministries including UGC, CSIR, Ministries of HRD and education.
    Ø  Prepare a national Programme on building expertise on biodiversity issues.
    Ø  Lead discussions related to Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) in preparation for CBD-COP 11 meeting.
    Ø  Serve as the focal point for International Network of Universities.

    Ø  Organize awareness raising programmes through the creation of “Voluntary Team on Education” (VOTE) on biodiversity issues at national, regional and state levels.
